April 30, 2025 (Hockessin, DE) – AYO Music Group, an active copyright administrator offering global administration of publishing, neighboring rights, and recordings, has launched Gapfinder, a tool to identify errors and gaps in publishing work registrations with global PROs. Developed as a unique tool for AYO’s copyright admin team, Gapfinder data services are now also being made available to selected clients worldwide.
Gapfinder includes verified data on over 85 million compositions across 300 international PROs as well as The MLC and other pay sources. Using this information, the tool can help surface issues such as duplicate registrations, missing registrations, multiple ISWC codes, and visible disputes – errors that collectively cause copyright owners to lose billions of dollars of royalty income every year.
“Missing or incorrect music data is a huge problem on a global scale precisely because it is so hard to identify,” said Bryson Nobles, Head of Data & Technology at AYO. “With Gapfinder, we are making these issues easier to find so they can be corrected. Not only will that ensure royalties are going to the right people, it will also unlock new opportunities to make money on previously unlicensable tracks.”
“Deborah Mannis-Gardner, Stacey Haber, and I started AYO because we saw firsthand the missed royalties and opportunities that come from bad data,” said Pär Almqvist, Co-Founder and CEO of AYO. “Short of a global rights database accessible to all, the best option for empowering rightsholders is to help them find inconsistencies in their data and correct them. Gapfinder is a powerful tool that does exactly that, and we hope that expanding its availability will lead to better data across the board.”
