DDEX
Mark Isherwood of DDEX spoke at MaMA in Paris on October 17th on the “Data, the Cornucopia of the Future?” panel, where he was also joined by Jaybird client Edward Ginis of OpenPlay. The panel touched upon topics such as the progress made in the data sector, the progression of the “cloud,” the advent of the universal database, and the future of the rights sector in terms of digital use.


Niels Rump spoke with Revelator CEO Bruno Guez, and Product Marketing manager Zac Vibert on the A2IM webinar “Bridging Traditional Music Distribution with NFTs,” on Thursday, November 7th. They explored the new and groundbreaking Simple Music NFT DDEX standard and its transformative impact on the music industry – highlighting how the new standard seamlessly connects traditional music distribution with NFTs and Web3 projects, opening up new opportunities for creators, labels, and distributors, and more!
Deborah Mannis Gardner
Deborah Mannis-Gardner recently wrote the op-ed, “The Realities and Opportunities of Licensing Music for Games,” for Hypebot. This piece covered the revival of catalogs through game placement, the lucrative revenue stream artists can utilize through music licensing in video games, and why educating rightsholders is the key to unlocking difficult-to-license tracks. Deborah also recently spoke at MaMA in Paris on October 18th alongside Music Business Association President Portia Sabin to discuss all things sync.

LyricFind
Darryl Ballantyne of LyricFind spoke at Music Tectonics on the panel “How to Scale Up Your Startup.” Topics discussed included how to choose your business partners, finding a capital source beyond money, and what to do when caught in a crossfire.

Darryl also appeared on the Music Tectonics Podcast for their new miniseries, “How to Scale Up.” Darryl discusses the origins of LyricFind and explains how they got from their humble beginnings in a college dorm room to one of the biggest lyric providers in the world. Listen here.
OpenPlay
In September, Edward Ginis of OpenPlay was featured on the Celebrity Access In the Hot Seat with Larry Leblanc series. The interview discussed the transformation of music data management as the music industry quickly adapts to new AI technology.
In addition, OpenPlay has hired 20+ year music and technology industry veteran Chris McMurtry as a Senior Solutions Architect. In his new role, Chris will be responsible for helping OpenPlay expand their product features to further align with their label and publisher client needs, and will assist in evangelizing the importance of OpenPlay in today’s data driven market. Symphonic Distribution

Symphonic Distribution has launched “Your Story Starts Here,” a breathtaking series featuring DJ sets from iconic city rooftops and outdoor locations around the globe. Each episode showcases the unique sounds and cultural stories of the world’s most vibrant music cities, featuring artists who shape and define modern music. Highlights include Riobamba in New York City, Gavin Turek in Los Angeles, Ian Cahill in San Juan, DJ Dayeh in São Paulo, Yogev in Bogotá, and Andres VII in Ciudad de México. Keep an eye on Symphonic’s YouTube page for new videos every Monday and Wednesday!

At the end of October, Symphonic Distribution introduced support and delivery capability for spatial audio for Symphonic Partner clients. With the addition of spatial audio, Symphonic Partner clients will have the ability to upload their spatial audio releases directly to their account in SymphonicMS and deliver them downstream to DSPs that offer this format to their listeners with the click of a button. Symphonic Partner clients who take advantage of spatial audio services will be charged a low flat rate to distribute each spatial recording, which can be paid out of future royalties through a simple reduction charge from the client’s account balance upon release approval. In September, the song “She Likes It (Feat. Jake Scott),” written by Angry Mob songwriter Jake Scott, was certified double Platinum by the RIAA!
Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP)

The Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) held the AIMP Miami Music Publishing Summit with Music Publishers Canada on Saturday, November 2, at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. The event featured a full day of panels, info sessions, and networking, covering topics such as legal and rights management issues related to AI, how money works in the music business, sync licensing, and how publishers, managers, and artists work together.

The Atlanta Chapter held the Creative Entrepreneurship Summit on September 25-26 at 4U Recording Atlanta and Georgia State University. The event explored various facets of creative entrepreneurship in the music industry, including structuring businesses for artists and music entrepreneurs, rights management administration for labels and publishers, the mechanics of sync licensing, using AI to benefit artists, financial misconceptions in the music industry, and global revenue opportunities. The event also featured a screening of the film “Sync or Swim: Diving Deeper” and a post-screening Q&A with London Elixir and the film’s creative team, as well as a presentation from The MLC. The event was sponsored by The MLC and Adaptive Music.

The New York Chapter held the panel “The State of New York Indie-Publishing A&R” on October 9th featuring some of New York’s top A&R professionals as they explored the current state of independent music publishing in NYC.

The LA Chapter hosted the panel “Music Supervision: Art For Art’s Sake, Money For God’s Sake!” on October 17th with several top music supervisors who shared their business and creative perspectives for the year ahead as film and TV production continues to ramp up post-strike. The event was covered by Music Connection.

The Nashville Chapter announced its Songwriter Series Class of 2024 on September 25 at the Listening Room Cafe. Selected songwriters include Jared Conrad (Big Yellow Dog), Tyler Halverson (Concord), Wyatt McCubbin (Tape Room/50 Egg), Makayla Lynn (Eclipse/Harvey Dog Music/Wrensong), Jon Decious (Reservoir/One Riot) and Chase McDaniel (Hang Your Hat Music). The event was hosted by Justin Ebach (Jonas Music Group) and Ryan Hurd (Big Machine).
