Martin Clancy has had a whirlwind couple of months, being featured in various publications (NY TimesWired), podcasts (Bobby Owsinski’s Inner Circle PodcastYour Morning Coffee), and TV and radio interviews (BBC Radio, WCBS Newsradio 880CGTN America) discussing generative AI, his new AI:OK initiative, the recent fake Drake and The Weeknd tracks on Spotify, and more. AIMP LA’s “Latin Music 101” event

We are excited to announce that the AIMP Global Music Publishing Summit is back, with the 6th annual event scheduled for June 13th at the 3 West Club in New York City. We hope you’ll join us for a full day of panels and keynotes on the business, sync, and creative areas of the independent music publishing industry. Registration is now open at aimpsummit.com.

In addition, the Nashville Chapter of the AIMP launched the sixth season of its podcast series, the AIMP Nashville Pubcast, on Monday, April 3. The 20-episode season kicked off with guests Hannah Babitt (Founder/CEO of BABZ INC) Brandon Perdue (SVP, A&R + Publishing, River House Entertainment), Jeffrey Hasson (Co-Head, UTA Nashville), and David Israelite (President & CEO, NMPA). The AIMP also announced that is has joined over 80 companies and organizations who have signed the Human Artistry Campaign’s petition to support human creativity amid the growth of AI. Michael Lau (AIMP National Chair and New York Chapter President), Marc Caruso (AIMP Los Angeles Chapter President), Ree Guyer (AIMP Nashville Chapter President), and Tony D. Alexander (AIMP Atlanta Chapter President) issued a joint statement on the decision, which you can read in HITS Daily Double.

Finally, the LA Chapter hosted events such as “Latin Music 101” and “AI and Copyright: Navigating the Intersections of Creativity, Technology and Copyright,” the NY Chapter hosted events such as “Digging Deeper: How Music Grows Brands” and “O Canada!,” and the Nashville Chapter hosted events such as “From Streams to Success: Best Practices for Digital Marketing and Digital Distribution” and the 8th Annual AIMP Country Music Awards.

In April, Angry Mob announced the opening of their new studio space at The Williamson in North Hollywood! Their team spent most of April setting up the new studio in preparation for the future sessions that will host a variety of songwriters, producers, and musicians.

Paula Savastano (Senior Director of Copyright and Royalties at Angry Mob) recently presented a workshop on fair use and copyright for Sigma Alpha Lota, a professional music fraternity. The workshop discussed the legal rights to share music under the Fair Use Statute of the U.S. Copyright Law and outlined the recent Copyright Law updates to come into place with the passage of the Music Modernization Act.

Debra Delshad (Senior Director of Licensing and Synch) and Kellen Smith (Coordinator, Licensing and Synch) attended the 2023 Guild of Music Supervisor Awards and this year’s MUSEXPO. Debra attended the MUSEXPO conference to speak on the panel “Licensing Your Content – What Are You Syncing? Repping and A&R’ing Your Music for Film, TV, Promos, Video Games, Film Trailers, and Advertising Opportunities.”

Daytripper hosted their international song camp at Bryan Adams’ Warehouse studio in Vancouver, BC from April 3-7! Songwriters and artists traveled from the United States, Denmark, and from different regions of Canada to collaborate and create new music.

CCS clients Spin Master Entertainment and Aircraft Pictures took home wins at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards! Spin Master Entertainment’s show Paw Patrol took home wins in three categories, including Best Preschool Program Series, Best Sound in an Animated Series for Paw Patrol‘s “Rescue Knights: Quest for the Dragons Truth,” and the Best Director award went to Charles E. Bastien for “Rescue Knights: Quest for the Dragons Truth.” Aircraft Pictures celebrated Saraa Chaudry’s win for Best Performance in a Children’s or Youth Program Series for their work in the hit show Holly Hobbie

In March, Daytripper sponsored the 2023 SXSW Songs camp, an international songwriting camp for established songwriters, producers, and artists with commercial co-writing credits, which took place at Arlyn Studios from March 14-16. From April 17-20, DDEX held their Spring Plenary and 2023 BIG Summit in London, UK at the offices of Meta Platforms. The Summit, which was the largest in DDEX history, covered and addressed topics including Web3, NFTs, fraudulent streams, suspicious behavior, and more. 

DDEX is looking forward to their next Plenary taking place in Washington, DC in November! 

DDEX also made an appearance at SXSW on March 15, where Secretariat Niels Rump spoke on the panel “A Growing Collaboration to Fight Bots & Spin Fraud” to discuss how collaboration has enabled the music industry to fight bots more efficiently together than they could on their own, while still balancing their own business commitments to their partners, artists, and fans.

Lastly, DDEX Secretariat Mark Isherwood made an appearance at Rio2C on April 21 on the panel “Metadata Music Streaming Matters” with Susan Butler and Fernando Marcos. They discussed music metadata’s importance and reverberation in music streaming.


Deborah Mannis-Gardner was recently invited as a guest on BBC’s The World Tonight in March! She was interviewed about her thoughts on Bad Bunny’s recent legal case about using an ex-girlfriend’s voice without permission. Deborah was a panelist for the “Music Licensing Beyond Web2” panel at this year’s SXSW event! The discussion included insight and guidance on NFTs, the metaverse, fractionalization of rights, DAOs, and how virtual worlds are pushing the limits of how our licensing norms and copyright laws function.

The Neil Bogart biopic Spinning Gold also hit theaters on March 31st! Deborah served as the film’s music supervisor, selecting and clearing songs by iconic artists such as Donna Summer, KISS, Parliament, the Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Bill Withers, and more for use in the film. Welcome to our new clients Jessica Vaughn and Ryan Vaughn of Head Bitch Music! Jessica Vaughn took on SXSW as part of the “Music Licensing Beyond Web2” panel in March alongside Deborah Mannis-Gardner for an awesome discussion on music rights challenges and opportunities. Thank you to everyone who joined us! 

Jessica wrote a guest column in Billboard titled “Music’s New Secret Weapon? Creatives as Executives.” In the guest post, Jessica discusses how and why creatives are an asset and can improve the bottom line for music companies as well as highlights her own struggles landing a role in the music industry and fighting to be taken seriously. Jessica also ardently advocates for creatives whose potential has been disregarded even though they know how to speak the language of creatives, have huge drive and tenacity, are highly adaptable, and resourceful all because they didn’t take the “traditional” route into the industry. Authority Magazine recently featured Jessica for an interview piece, “Thriving As A Woman In a Male-Dominated Industry,” where she discussed her non-traditional career path and the most important traits that have led to her success. In addition, on April 27, Ryan was featured in a Q&A titled, “Second Chapters; How I Reinvented Myself In The Second Chapter Of My Life,” where he discussed his entry into the music industry as a professional drummer in NYC and his eventual transition to music industry executive. 

We also want to congratulate Jessica for several big sync deals! Jessica landed “Built For Greatness” by Marieme in a WNBA Draft promo and a trailer for the Michelle Obama Netflix special, The Light We Carry, “Gorgeous” by Olivia Knox in Saturdays on Disney+, and several other recent placements!


Beatroot Music, part of the Made in Memphis Entertainment (MIME) family of companies, has announced a new integration with RoyFi, a company working to solve the problem of access to money for musicians, producers, and songwriters. Qualified artists on the Beatroot roster will now have access to accelerated advance funding decisions from RoyFi, receiving an offer in as little as 60 seconds from submitting an application. It is RoyFi’s first such integration, with more to be announced soon. Read the full announcement here.

Beatroot Music has signed a distribution deal with 7-year-old recording artist King Moore. Under the deal, Beatroot will ensure Moore’s singles and albums are available on all major DSPs, pitch his songs for playlist placements and sync opportunities, and provide his team access to advanced analytics. OpenPlay recently hosted a webinar with Music Biz as part of their Common Ground Webinar Series titled “The OpenPlay Network Effect: Beyond Proprietary Systems.” During the webinar, OpenPlay Co-Founder, and Chief Client Officer Edward Ginis talked with Bill Wilson of MNRK about OpenPlay’s various features, learned how it works, and got a glimpse into a future beyond proprietary systems. Click here to view.

Teri Nelson Carpenter recently hosted an intimate interview with Richie Ramone from the Ramones for the California Copyright Conference (CCC) on April 25. They talked about Richie’s illustrious career, his time with the Ramones, his current work, the current landscape of the industry, and childhood memories. He even read an excerpt from his new book for those in attendance. 

Reel Muzik Werks has partnered with India-based band Shor Police to launch Tunes Without Borders, an initiative to bring international music to English-speaking cultures. Founder & CEO of Reel Muzik Werks Teri Nelson Carpenter first became acquainted with Shor Police through the All About Music conference in Mumbai and loved their sound, sparking her passion to put them in front of a U.S. audience. Verifi’s announcement of the next evolution of the VRDA initiative

Verifi’s latest blog post touches on the topic of derivative works and how you can derive value from them. The digital landscape is complicated and as more artists and music companies explore these new avenues, there are a lot of questions that are raised surrounding music rights and copyright infringement. Verifi recently announced the next evolution of its Verifi Rights Data Alliance (VRDA) initiative. VRDA members will now be able to selectively pool data to unlock new opportunities for licensing revenue, quickly clean up data and reduce black-box royalties for newly acquired catalogs, and collaborate with fellow members to ensure all parties always have the most up-to-date and authoritative data, all while maintaining separate data siloes.
