
FanTracks Teams with Goo Goo Dolls for Concert Livestream and AR Movie Musical
Jaybird just started working with FanTracks, a new live streaming and fan engagement platform co- founded by Barry Summers and Ty Roberts. On Saturday, FanTracks produced an exclusive concert livestream for the Goo Goo Dolls performing hits from across their iconic catalog, along with an interview with founding members John Rzeznik and Robby Takac by Matt Pinfield, and many special packages and features for fans. The show is now available on demand to FanTracks subscribers.
FanTracks and the Goos are now in production for “It’s Christmas All Over,” the first-ever Augmented Reality Movie Musical, which will debut on December 12. You can read more about these shows in Rolling Stone and Pollstar, with much more to come!

Great news from Angry Mob‘s songwriter, producer, and mixer Rune Westberg: On November 6, Marina Kaye will release her long-awaited album Twisted, ending with one of Rune’s tracks called Questions. The Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) hosted a number of educational webinars last month. AIMP LA presented “Between The Cue Sheets: What Your Mother Never Told You,” and answered a variety of questions about cue sheets, which can account for 90% or more of the earnings for a film and TV music publishing catalog. The AIMP New York Chapter later teamed with The Recording Academy to host a webinar showcasing the city of Atlanta, titled “AIMP/NARAS – Spotlight Atlanta – Songwriters and Producers – Are You a Music Publisher?” The AIMP Nashville Chapter kept the ball rolling with a discussion on Monday Morning Intel, a new trade publication, and its radio and industries new data-driven performance chart, which was previewed in Music Connection. AIMP LA hosted a webinar titled “Legal Luminaries: A Different Perspective” on October 22, featuring a panel of illustrious women legal experts sharing their vision on the future of the music industry. This event was previewed in HITS Daily Double. On October 23, the AIMP hosted a Premier Roundtable: The Copyright Office Update with Regan A. Smith, General Counsel and Associate Register of Copyrights at the U.S. Copyright Office.
Finally, each AIMP Chapter’s 2021 Board of Directors elections are happening this month, with Nashville’s already wrapped up (read more about that in Music Row). AIMP LA is introducing its candidates tonight, and be sure to check out AIMP NY’s upcoming Meet the Candidates event on October 27!
Deborah Mannis-Gardner has been interviewed by Larry Miller, Director of the NYU Steinhardt Music Business Program and Founder/Host of the Musonomics podcast, for an episode on licensing music for podcasts. (More on that below!) Keeping up her streak of incredible work, Deborah handled music clearances for Megan Thee Stallion’s performance of “Savage” on Saturday Night Live, in addition to Showtime’s John Belushi documentary. Also in September, Deborah’s company DMG Clearances, Inc. hired veteran entertainment business paralegal Sharon Edelson for consulting duties. Sharon will assist with clearances in all media, as well as review and comment on licenses.
DDEX will host its second Creator Credit Summit from November 17 to 19, which will shine a light on how their industry standards help ensure that all contributors to the creation of musical works and sound recordings are credited. On October 15, Beatroot Music, the only Black-owned music distributor in the U.S. and part of the Made in Memphis Entertainment (MIME) family of companies, celebrated a year of success in educating, nurturing, and growing the artist and music business community in Memphis while expanding its reach around the world. MIME’s Co-Founder and CEO Tony Alexander was also featured in the Memphis Flyer (“Movie Music! Memphis Musicians are Getting their Songs in Films and TV Shows”), where he explained the motivations behind MIME and what the company has been accomplishing for artists, particularly through sync placements driven by MIME’s unique synergies.
In addition, David Porter (Co-Founder & CEO) and Tony Alexander (President & Managing Director) joined Music Biz President Portia Sabin on October 22 to discuss diversity and inclusion in the music industry.

Why is licensing music for a podcast like sailing in uncharted seas? Musonomics released a new episode analyzing music licensing for podcasts. In “Sync or Swim – Licensing Music for podcasts,” host Larry Miller delves into why this format creates so much complexity for music usage even as the audience for podcasts is exploding. In conversations with music clearance expert Deborah Mannis-Gardner of DMG Clearances, who works with podcasts like Broken Record and The Actual Stretch and Bobbito Show; music supervisor Scott Velasquez, who just launched Frisson Sync; and Premier Music Group founder and Downtown Music Records Chairman Josh Deutsch, you will explore different approaches to licensing this format, anchored by a review of the key terms that can make music licensing seem so opaque.

The NY Tech Alliance hosted an amazing meetup showcasing civic tech on October 13. Featured companies included:
- Avanlee Care – An app to help you care for your aging parent.
- ChalkTalk – A platform to help teachers “teach amazing.”
- Undock – A tool to schedule meetings easily.
- Motivote – A platform to guide you through the voting process in a fun, engaging way.
- iVoted – A music festival you can access once you’ve submitted your ballot.

SAG-AFTRA’s initiative with payment-processing company Exactuals to provide direct deposit of members’ residuals has been enormously successful, reaching the 1 million deposits milestone on October 6. Under the system, nearly $200 million has been deposited directly into members’ bank accounts since it launched nationally on May 1, 2019. Read more in Digital Music News.
