Mondo.NYC

Mondo.NYC is holding their next conference from Oct. 10-13, 2023 at the Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn, NY.

Key Changes

Welcome to our new clients Howie Singer, PhD, and Bill Rosenblatt!
They recently co-wrote the book Key Changes: The Ten Times Technology Transformed the Music Industry which tells a new story about the history of the music business and the ten technological advances that disrupted it over the last century. Reel Muzik Werks

Reel Muzik Werks has signed a global administration deal with boutique independent production music company Level 77 Music. RMW will be an extension of Level 77 and provide additional bandwidth and resources as Level 77 continues to grow both domestically and abroad. Read the full announcement here.

RMW has signed songwriter Jennifer Adan to a publishing administration deal. This includes the administration of her previously existing catalog, including “She Wouldn’t Be Gone” by Blake Shelton. The news was recently featured on Billboard, A&R Worldwide, and Celebrity Access.
RMW has also had some exciting sync placements! “Loverboy” by A-Wall was featured in season 1 episode 2 of the Max series Velma. “Rumba De Cuba” from the Termidor catalog was in season 3 of the series Street Foods on Netflix. Additionally, The New Edition Story will be airing on Paramount+ and features the song “My Secret” from the Bobby Hart catalog.
Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP)

The AIMP Nashville Chapter hosted their annual Songwriter Series on August 9th at the Listening Room Cafe in Nashville. The event honored and featured live performances from the Songwriter Series Class of 2023: Blake Pendergrass, Terri Jo Box, Mae Estes, Chris McKenna, Luke Preston, Zarni deVette, and Lauren Hungate. Each year, the Songwriter Series showcases a new class of promising writers who have not had a song charting higher than a Top 20 on the Billboard or Mediabase charts. They are selected by a special committee made up of music industry professionals, based on submissions from current AIMP Nashville Chapter members. The event was also covered by All Access.

The AIMP New York Chapter hosted the “Copyright 101: Follow the Money with Joanne Kelsey” webinar on August 10th as part of their annual Summer School series. Joanne Kelsey (VP, Royalties & Administration at Anthem Entertainment) discussed the fundamentals of royalties and their underlying copyrights with moderators and AIMP NY Board members Art Levy, Esq. (The Levy Firm) and Antonella DiSaverio (Senior Director, Administration and Publisher Relations at BMI).

The AIMP Los Angeles Chapter hosted the “A View From The Start” webinar on August 17th. The discussion focused on the beginning of a future executive’s career. Moderator Yvonne Drazan (AIMP LA Chapter Board member and peermusic’s VP, Latin Division, West Coast) was joined by panelists and up-and-coming music industry executives David Carrasco (Latin A&R Coordinator, peermusic), Zack Richmond (Coordinator, Music Publishing, Universal Pictures Film Music Department), Tyler Garber (Associate Attorney, King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano, LLP), and Angela McPhee (Artist Management Coordinator, Friends At Work).

The AIMP Atlanta Chapter hosted a Lunch & Learn networking event on August 15th. In addition to networking, the event featured an introduction from Marché Butler, who leads creative for BMI in Atlanta, discussing how BMI can serve the creative community. Rolling Out sat down with AIMP Atlanta President Tony D. Alexander to discuss the event and the Chapter’s mission. Check that out here.
Angry Mob Music

From June 26-30, Angry Mob and their Senior Director of A&R Ralph Torrefranca hosted the inaugural New Normal Writing Camp in Los Angeles, which featured 30+ talented artists/writers/producers from 10+ different cultural backgrounds. In addition, out of those in attendance, 50% were women producers and 70% were female writers/artists. You can read more about it in Music Connection.

The Angry Mob team recently signed three new admin deals with U.S. based artists Ames, Justin Starling, and Taz Conley. As part of the inked deals, all writers have worldwide administration agreements for specific catalog items and will be able to participate in new co-writes and work-for-hires. Angry Mob also signed an extension to their worldwide co-publishing agreement with artist, songwriter, and producer Joey Verskotzi, p/k/a VERSKOTZI. The deal continues their relationship which began in 2019 and encompasses all current and future works including his upcoming album with Preach Records, coming in early 2024. Martin Clancy

Martin Clancy has had a busy few months doing interviews with a variety of major publications covering various aspects of AI, music, and ethics.
These include four with The Messenger: The ‘Glee’ Cast Is Reuniting — Thanks to AI and TikTok, AI vs. Hollywood: Are Writers’ Jobs In Danger?, AI vs. Hollywood: How the Game Is Changing for Actors, and AI vs. Hollywood: Will Bots Start Making Movie Trailers?; The LA Times’ How Freaked Out Should We Be About AI Music? Inside the Industry Panic; and The Sunday Independent’s Music and the robots: ‘AI is going to be a challenge in the same way the industrial revolution was a challenge.’ Martin also appeared on The Label Machine Podcast Episode #28, and the Hold Onto The Colours Podcast Episode #72.
Coming up in October, Martin will be speaking at multiple conferences in the U.S. and France. On October 10th, Martin will be speaking at Mondo.NYC on the panel “AI: Opportunity or Apocalypse?” with David Hughes (Principal, Hughes Strategic) and moderator Albhy Galuten (Senior Fellow, Intertrust Technologies), where they’ll discuss the opportunities and the challenges associated with AI in the music ecosystem.
Martin will then speak at the MaMA Music and Convention in Paris on October 12th on the panel “AI and Music – What The Experts Say,” with Stuart Dredge (Music Ally), Emmanuel Legrand (Creative Industries News), and Éric Baptiste (Qwantum Rights Solutions).
DDEX
Don’t forget! DDEX is hosting their Fall Plenary at the SoundExchange offices in Washington D.C. from November 13-16, 2023.
Mark Isherwood will be speaking at the BY:LARM conference in Oslo, Norway on Friday, September 15, on the panel “Your Rights, New Income“. This session will discuss how the DDEX standard makes it possible to “follow the money” from the intellectual property uploaded on any given platform quickly and easily and how it is being rolled out across Norway to create new revenue streams such as generating payments for concert footage posted by fans on Instagram.
Mark will also be speaking at the Amsterdam Dance Event, taking place October 18-22 in Amsterdam.
Deborah Mannis-Gardner

Deborah Mannis-Gardner a.k.a. the “Queen of Sample Clearances” was selected in August for recognition on two prestigious lists: the Forbes 50 Over 50, which highlights dynamic female leaders and entrepreneurs who have achieved significant success later in life, and Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players, which identifies the executives most responsible for the success of the R&B/Hip-Hop genre over the past year.
These awards recognize her major contributions to the world of music clearance this year, including bringing De La Soul’s legendary catalog to streaming services for the first time and serving as the Music Supervisor for the major motion pictures “Spinning Gold” and “Kiss the Future,” among many other accomplishments. Congratulations, Deborah!
Head Bitch Music

Jessica Vaughn of Head Bitch Music was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter about her work remixing the My Little Pony theme song for its 40th anniversary! Read the interview here.

Jessica Vaughn and Ryan Vaughn of Head Bitch Music were both featured as guests on Ari Herstand’s podcast, The New Music Business, in August. Jessica joined Ari on the August 15th episode to discuss all things sync-related, and Ryan appeared on the August 22nd episode to talk about how to hack the Spotify and TikTok algorithms. Made in Memphis Entertainment (MIME)

Denver-based record label Perception Records has signed a two-year worldwide sync and publishing deal with Heavy Hitters Music, the boutique song catalog and music publisher that is part of the MIME family of companies. Under the deal, Heavy Hitters will provide admin services for the Perception Records catalog, managing the label’s rights in the marketplace and ensuring all royalties are collected. Heavy Hitters will also pitch the catalog for sync placements in film, TV, advertising, games, and trailers. Read the full announcement here >>.

NY Tech Alliance
The NY Tech Alliance held two events with the Paul Ellis Law Group in May and July.

On May 24, they held the event “Surviving and Thriving in the Current Climate: VC, Venture Debt, and Alternative Strategies,” which addressed the current market and opportunities for VC financing, availability of venture debt as a supplement or alternative to venture capital, and more.
