November 30, 2021 (Memphis, TN & Atlanta, GA) – Made in Memphis Entertainment (MIME) is proud to announce that its co-founders David Porter (CEO) and Tony D. Alexander (President & Managing Director) have both been selected for the inaugural Worthy 100 list, published by Worth. The list recognizes entrepreneurs who have used their success and influence to make a positive impact on society. View the full list at www.worth.com/worthy100-2021.

“I am humbled with this recognition on so many levels, thank you Worthy,” said Porter. “My efforts in entrepreneurship as well as musical contributions are grounded in motivating the next generations who look like me that it can be done. Music is and has been my life, so has being diversified in other business. Born in Memphis and wanting awareness of possibilities becomes easier with respected platforms of your level recognizing my efforts in my community. Again Worthy, thank you.”
“It’s a true honor to be recognized not only as a successful entrepreneur but also as someone who has done good for my community,” said Porter. “Memphis is my home, and it is also home to many talented young musicians and up-and-coming industry executives who too often fall through the cracks. I’m happy to do my part to amplify their voices and help them find their place in the music industry.”
“Thank you to Worth for recognizing the value of MIME’s mission: to develop a pipeline of underrepresented music executives that are committed to serving independent creatives,” said Alexander. “I am proud of the success we have had in Memphis with MIME, where we have nurtured incredible local talents both on the stage and behind the scenes. Now that we have opened our new offices in Atlanta, I am excited to do the same for this burgeoning music industry hub.”
Porter, an original Stax Records songwriter and inductee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Alexander, a 20+ year business and legal veteran, met through their work at The Consortium MMT, a non-profit organization founded by Porter to cultivate the music industry in Memphis. In the spirit of giving back to their community, Porter and Alexander formed MIME in 2015, building it into a full-service entertainment group with global reach, but with its heart in the hometown of modern American music. MIME is dedicated to true diversity from the C-Suite down, with hiring practices that put women and people of color in real positions of power and allow those without traditional experience to flourish in the music industry.

MIME’s family of companies includes independent music publishing company MIME Publishing, music distribution company Beatroot, sync licensing company Heavy Hitters Music, and recording studio brand 4U Recording, all focused on providing worldwide exposure to local artists without requiring them to leave their hometown. To that end, MIME recently helped Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo blow up in the U.S., recording his Gold-certified albums Time Served and A Gangsta’s Pain (#1 on the Billboard 200 chart) at 4U Recording. MIME Publishing producers/songwriters YC and RealRed both made the Top 6 of five different Billboard charts for their work on the latter album, with YC topping both the R&B/Hip-Hop Producers and Rap Producers charts.
In 2021, Porter and Alexander opened a new recording studio and office space in Atlanta, establishing a local presence for MIME in the Hip-Hop capital of the world. The move was a huge step forward in their mission to create a global network of hyper-local music communities and give artists outside the major music industry hubs a chance to be discovered where they are, opening the playing field to many who would not otherwise be found.
