September 20, 2021 (Memphis, TN) MIME Publishing Group is proud to announce the signing of writer and producer Goliath Beatz (Bryce Smith) to a co-publishing and administration deal. Goliath Beatz is best known for his work with Young Thug, London on Da Track, FBG BabyGoat, Lil Keed, and Southside.
Smith is an accomplished pianist and percussionist. As a toddler, he started playing both the drums and piano, eventually settling on piano as his primary instrument. While other children were playing with toys, Smith found joy on the piano. Playing music brought the young producer-to-be more satisfaction than any toy could.
He’s always been interested in African music and its influence on today’s culture. That interest led him to master the African drums the Djembe, the Dundun, and the Bougarabou. In 2003, at 7, Smith joined the Memphis-based group Watoto De Afrika, eventually performing at the city’s Orpheum Theatre. At thirteen, he had an early career highlight, playing piano at the National Parent Teacher Organization Conference, where the actress Tichina Arnold (Martin, Everybody Hates Chris) was the keynote speaker.
In 2011, encouraged by a friend and much to their teacher’s dismay, Smith stole a glance at a Lex Luther music video while in class. Intrigued, he researched music production in depth that evening; what he learned motivated him to download FL Studio (producing software). As he says, “I’ve been producing music since that time. It seems like I have been on this journey for a long time, but I’m often reminded that I’ve just started. Signing with MIME Publishing is a great beginning to my journey in music. Let’s work!”
“We’re expecting great things from Goliath Beatz,” saidPrince Howard, Director of A&R, MIME Publishing Group, “When we heard his work with Young Thug, London on Da Track, FBG BabyGoat, Lil Keed, and Southside, we knew he’d make a great addition to the MIME Publishing family and are looking forward to creating even more great music together.”
