Music Ally: Luminate reveals new plan to collect independent physical sales data

Music Ally covered the news that Luminate will be changing how it collects and reports data from sales at independent record stores.

Earlier this year, research firm Luminate was being criticised over changes it had made to the way it collected data on physical music sales in the US.
The critics were concerned that the new methodology – based only on sales at independent retailers reporting directly to Luminate – would mean the company’s data (used by Billboard for its charts) would hugely underestimate physical sales.
Thankfully, the company has taken note of that criticism, and yesterday announced a new methodology forged in partnership with Record Store Day and the Music Business Association.
