Music Ally has covered the LyricFind lawsuit against competitor Musicxmatch at TPG growth over their ati-copmetitive deal with Warner-Chappell.

Why? It all relates to a deal signed in March 2024 between Musixmatch and publisher Warner Chappell Music.
In a blog post, LyricFind CEO Darryl Ballantyne claimed that the deal have Musixmatch “not only the exclusive rights to sub-license Warner-Chappell lyrics, but also to provide the lyric data itself to third parties”.
In other words, even if a streaming service had a direct licensing deal with Warner Chappell for lyrics, it would have to source those lyrics from Musixmatch and remove any sourced from competitors like LyricFind.
