May 14, 2024 (Nashville, TN) – The Music Biz 2024 conference is officially up and running, completing its first full day of programming on May 13th. Day One featured the Music Biz Roadshow event, presented by CD Baby and supported by The MLC, featuring conversations with artists Hitkidd and Stephen Day as well as executives from Beatroot, Digilogue, MAX, Power Entertainment, Granderson Des Rochers, Label Logic, and more. In addition to the Roadshow, Day One also featured the tracks #NEXTGEN_NOW, Let’s Talk Physical, and Startup Lab: A Bootcamp for New Music Ventures.

Music Biz 2024 will continue today with the keynote “The Enduring Value of Songs — Leveraging Technology to Drive Growth for Songwriters and Publishers” with Laurent Hubert of Kobalt, and will also feature panels with top experts from Peermusic, The MLC, Downtown, Paramount, Venice Music, and more. Tracks for Day Two will include the Sync Symposium, Music and Money: Managing Today’s Financial Climate for Tomorrow’s Artist, Howdy Neighbor: Understanding Neighboring Rights Opportunities, and the Indie Label Summit. Music Business Association President Portia Sabin will also deliver her annual President’s Address during the Music Biz 2024 Brunch, sponsored by Warner Music Group.

In the “Arrested Development?: Demystifying the Pathway to Artist Success” panel, Delante Murphy of Beatroot sat down with artist Hitkidd, Kadeem Phillips of Power Entertainment, and Drew De Leon of The Digilogue to break down the myth of overnight success and the modern artist development process.

How AI & Tech Are Shaping the Business of Music

The integration of new technologies plays a major role in shaping the future of the music industry, and AI solutions are no exception. Elizabeth Brooks of Better Angels Ventures spoke with Jeremy Gruber of Friends at Work, Jeff Rosenfeld of MAX, Maddy Sunquist of Madkat Management, and artist Stephen Day on how artists can harness the power of AI to act upon fan engagement data and create sustainable success.

In “Building a Healthy Relationship Between Startups & Rightsholders: An Advisor Perspective,” Aileen Crowley of Lark42 sat down with Cliff Fluent of Lewis Silken, Elizabeth Moody of Granderson Des Rochers, LLP, and Michael Pelczynski of Forms + Shapes to discuss the importance of an advisor’s input when establishing relationships between startups and rightsholders, as well as the pitfalls to avoid when preparing your startup for market.

Sustainability – Longevity or Environmentally Friendly? BOTH? 

Sarah Robertson of A to Z Media moderated the “Sustainability – Longevity or Environmentally Friendly? BOTH?,” panel, featuring Patrick Amory from Matador Records, Brandon Seavers from Memphis Record Pressing, and Dustin Blocker from the Vinyl Records Manufacturing Association in conversation about how long the music industry can sustain the resurgence of the vinyl format while offsetting the carbon footprint of vinyl production.
