May 15, 2024 (Nashville, TN) – The Music Biz 2024 conference is in full swing, completing its second day of programming on May 14th. Day Two featured the Music Biz Brunch, which included an address from Music Business Association President Portia Sabin, remarks from Tennessee State Representative Gloria Johnson, and performances by emerging Warner Music Group artists Avery Anna, Tyler Halverson, and Cassandra Lewis. Tuesday’s agenda also included the Sync Summit track and the “What’s Happening In Washington: A Music Policy Outlook” panel featuring executives from DiMA, NMPA, RIAA, The Recording Academy, and Public Knowledge among many other tracks and panels.

Music Biz 2024 will continue today with the Metadata Summit, including keynotes “Collaboration on a Global Scale: Metadata Solutions to Increase Efficiency Worldwide” with Kim Beauchamp of Universal Music Group and “Keynote Conversation With Meng Ru Kuok, BandLab.” Today’s panels will also feature top experts from TikTok, Vydia, Hopeless Records, The Black Opry, SoundCloud, and more. Finally, Wednesday evening will wrap up with the Bizzy Awards dinner and award ceremony.

Tracks for Day Three will include Artificial Intelligence, Concrete Results; Glocals Only: Music Marketing for a Borderless World; The Greatest Good: Social Impact Is Good for Business; Let’s Talk Physical; Streaming 2.0: Advancing Music Discovery, Delivery & Dollars; and Music Security Summit: Tackling Fraud in All Forms.

What’s Happening in Washington: A Music Policy Outlook Panel

As issues like AI and ticketing reform affect the modern music industry, Graham Davies from DiMA, Chris Barkley from the NMPA, Morna Willens from the RIAA, Michael Lewan from The Recording Academy, Erin McAnally from SONA, and Meredith Rose from Public Knowledge sat down for the “What’s Happening in Washington” panel to discuss current legislation, the policy landscape, prospects of new legal action, and what it all means for our future.

Music Biz Brunch: Keynote Address from Portia Sabin

During the 2024 Music Biz Brunch, Music Business Association President Portia Sabin delivered her annual President’s Address and announced the dates for Music Biz 2025 in Atlanta — May 12-15 at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel. The full text of Sabin’s speech is available here.

Mental Health Fund Recognition

Sabin also recognized Naomi Fabricant of SCARS Foundation and Tatum Allsep of the Mental Health Alliance for their contribution in jumpstarting the Music Biz Mental Health Fund. The fund has grown to $355,000 and has served more than 500 music industry professionals with 5,426 outpatient counseling and psychiatry visits. Al Andrews Receiving Inspiration Award

Sabin and Warner Music Group presented Porter’s Call Founder Al Andrews with the 2024 Inspiration Award for his continued dedication to providing community, support, and mental health services to artists and their families.

Gloria Johnson Remarks

Olga LaBelle, VP, Head of ESG at Warner Music Group, spoke on Sustainability in Touring during the Music Biz Brunch. The Brunch was sponsored by Warner Music Group.
