Women’s History Month is in full swing! Here at Jaybird, we’re celebrating with a series of in-depth conversations with some of our amazing clients and friends, who are quite literally making history across the music industry and beyond.

In this episode, Ashley Friedman talks to the “Queen of Sample Clearances” Deborah Mannis-Gardner, about forging a different career path from the rest of her family, what it truly means to be a mentor, and the lengths she has sometimes gone to in order to clear the most obscure samples. Deborah is also fresh off of her recent win at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, where she took home Best Music Supervision in a Docuseries for her work on Hip Hop Was Born Here Season 1, and we talk about why it was so important to pay homage to sampling through this project.

Watch the full conversation below and stay tuned for more coming to the Jaybird blog throughout the month.
