two country songwriters in Billboard country singles chart history, based
on a formula accounting for chart performance from January 1944 through
December 2025. The rankings will appear in “Joel Whitburn’s History of Top
Country Singles 1944-2025,” due June 4. Gorley, credited with 81 No. 1 songs,
leads the list; McAnally, with more than 50 No. 1s, ranks second.
