Guy Barash is the founder and CEO of Dotted Eighth LLC, a boutique technology advisory firm working at the intersection of music, data, and emerging technology. In this role, he advises music organizations, tech companies, startups, and others serving the music industry on the data and technology that powers music rights. With a background that includes extensive publishing experience and more than 20 years as a composer, Barash excels at navigating the intricate creative, legal, and technical domains that the music industry contends with day-in and day-out.
Since 2017, Dotted Eighth has helped various music organizations make better-informed decisions about technology, as well as effectively integrating it into their business workflows. In the last few years, Barash and Dotted Eighth have primarily focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in rights infrastructure and beyond, assisting organizations in ensuring that the AI tools they utilize or build for themselves work as a complementary layer to their environment.
Before founding Dotted Eighth, Barash served as Head of Digital for international music publisher The Music Sales Group (now Wise Music Group), where he was responsible for defining the company’s digital vision, leading initiatives such as developing a universal standard for digital delivery of music, integrating AI into key business processes, and representing the company in matters concerning digital publishing. Prior to that, Barash served as Online Content Manager for the Electronic Music Foundation, curated the “Eavesdropping” contemporary music series first at The Tank and then at Spectrum, and was a Music Theory Instructor at New York University (NYU).
Barash is an accomplished composer, performer, and sound artist whose work dissolves the conventional boundaries of genre, drawing a line from the traditional concert hall through musical theater to the global dance floor. Developing innovative, multidisciplinary projects, Barash often collaborates with an array of world-renowned poets, video artists, musicians, and choreographers. He served as the Artistic Director of Random Access Music, which produces the annual Queens New Music Festival. His latest album, Killdeer, was released on New Focus Recordings in 2023.
In addition, Barash has studied Zen Buddhism at the Village Zendo since 2016, and this practice has become a meaningful complement to his work as a consultant. At its core is a disciplined emphasis on observing clearly before acting. This perspective enables him to cut through complexity, surface what is actually driving outcomes, and respond with precision. In the context of AI readiness and music publishing, where noise and momentum can easily outpace clarity, this approach supports more grounded decision-making and solutions aligned with how organizations truly operate.
Born and raised in Haifa, Israel, Barash holds a master’s degree from NYU in Music Composition and Theory and a certificate in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Sloan School of Management. Barash is based in New York City.
