Detect combines Digimarc watermarking with neural fingerprinting to identify music usage across TV, radio, YouTube, and other media

October 1, 2026 (Los Angeles) – SourceAudio, the music industry’s most widely adopted sync platform and the market leader in large-scale fully cleared music licensing for AI training, will add SourceAudio Detect, its music monitoring service, to plans covering catalogs with 2,000 or more tracks at no additional charge. The change is part of the company’s updated pricing and packaging structure, which will take effect October 1, bringing more of SourceAudio’s monitoring and licensing capabilities into customers’ core subscriptions.

Previously available as an additional paid service based on catalog size, Detect allows labels, publishers, music libraries, and other rightsholders to identify public performances of their music and generate usage data for cue-sheet review, royalty tracking, omissions research, and broader analysis. For clients using SourceAudio for YouTube Content ID, Detect can also identify performances that were not captured through fingerprinting alone, allowing SourceAudio to review those usages for potential manual claims.

Detect combines two complementary approaches to music identification. Imperceptible watermarks using Digimarc technology apply to tracks as they are uploaded for monitoring, while SourceAudio’s neural fingerprinting can identify usages of recordings that were not previously watermarked, including legacy catalog. Together, the technologies allow SourceAudio to monitor music across more than 85 major TV networks, 217 radio stations in the top 20 U.S. markets, YouTube, and custom channels added at clients’ request.

“Monitoring becomes much more useful when it is integrated directly into the systems rightsholders use to manage and monetize their catalogs,” said Brent Phillips, Chief Technology Officer at SourceAudio. “By making Detect part of the core subscription for more of our clients, we’re putting usage data alongside the licensing and rights-management tools they already use, making it easier to identify performances that may have been missed and act on that information.”

“A Digimarc watermark stays with a recording wherever it goes, so rightsholders get proof of where their music was used instead of an estimate,” said Tony Rodriguez, EVP, Chief Technology Officer at Digimarc. “By including Detect in more of its plans, SourceAudio is bringing that proof to far more catalogs, and we’re proud to be the digital watermarking technology behind it.”

Customers with fewer than 2,000 tracks who want access to Detect can move to an eligible plan. SourceAudio’s October 1 pricing changes also make The Brief Inbox available across all plans, giving more clients access to licensing opportunities and creative briefs from SourceAudio’s network of broadcasters, agencies, brands, technology platforms, and other professional music buyers.

SourceAudio expanded Detect in June 2026, making it the first tool of its kind to combine Digimarc watermarking with neural fingerprinting. In addition to identifying music usages, the platform can provide proof-of-usage clips and export monitoring data in PRO-compliant formats, giving rightsholders information they can use to verify performances and support royalty reporting and collection.
