Music-chart reference publisher Record Research presented its inaugural Joel Whitburn Chart Champion Award to Curb Records founder Mike Curb at the Curb | Word Entertainment offices on Music Row on Wednesday.

The award is named after the late Joel Whitburn, who founded Record Research in 1970.
Record Research CEO Vinnie Freda noted that Curb had been the company’s best customer over the years, ahead of English songwriter Sir Tim Rice and Sir Elton John. “So it didn’t take a genius to figure out who should be the first recipient of an honor in Joel’s name,” Freda said.
